My First 10K

So I have been running on a treadmill for awhile now but have never competed in a actual race or marathon. Let alone did much running outdoors. So I decided it was time to finally give it a shot. I choose the Bank to Bay 10k in downtown Tacoma. It starts on 17th Street and you continue onto Schuster Parkway down to Ruston Way. My biggest concerns with this race was how early in the morning you have to be up to run it. Started at 920a I usually run but at night because I'm not much of a morning person. Also, there were a few hills and I'm not that strong at hills not yet anyway. They whole family came out to cheer me on plus they participated in the kids 1k. Here are some shots of the biggest fans.

Eric and Don my friends from work joined me on my first run.

Once the race started I managed to keep a pretty good pace. Eric ran the first 3 miles with Don and I then he took off. Don and I managed to keep up with each other. My goal was to beat him and his goal was to beat me. I thought I had a pretty good shot that is until that last hill kicked my butt. I didn't walk but I had to slow my pace. So he took me on the hill.

Here's my favorite guys waiting for me to cross he finish line.

So who ended up winning .....well Eric kicked both of our butts but

Don won by about 20 seconds. That darn hill. Here he is in the last stretch.

Here I come I'm in the pink shirt and black shorts.
There I go on my way to the finish line.
Well I did it I may not have beat Don but I did it. My final time was 49 minutes and I believe 40 seconds they haven't posted our times yet but it was under 50 minutes which was my goal.
